  • Sometimes it takes a fifth listen on a long subway trip to get the vibe of an album.

Happy to see the band together (I didn't like that separate double album at all) and their quest to explore different stuff in every release. It's not at the level of the three first albums but still works. One of my favorite bands of the last decade. ❤️

While I appreciate the new direction they're seemingly wanting to take things in, it does feel like they've only just dipped their toes in the water — I'm looking forward to hearing what happens when they truly take the plunge.

The album flows consistently from track to track, which is simultaneously its advantage and disadvantage. It felt like a safe release as they return with their first solo release in almost 7 years. Some unbelievable takes on shoegaze with "Fishbrain" and the two King Krule features. I really hoped for more experimentation here to push it to the next level, but it's a very enjoyable listen for a road trip.
