Record Club is a social network for music fans. That's a bit vague, we know, but it's on purpose. We encourage you to use and interact with this platform in any way you see fit.
Use it as an organizing tool for keeping track of new and old albums, or for interacting with other people on the platform.
Showcase your current rotation of albums that's on constant repeat, or use your queue to remind yourself what to listen to next.
Rate, review and tag releases, and add them to lists that you either share with the world or only yourself – and so much more…
The obvious comparison is Goodreads and Letterboxd (or for that matter, Rate Your Music). So if you've already used those platforms you will feel right at home here.
No. You can browse and explore Record Club just like any other site, but if you want to write reviews, make lists, or add to your "rotation", etc, you'll need to sign up.
Building a great community takes time, so we're slowly opening up Record Club for more music fans. We periodically hand out invites, so if someone you know is already on Record Club you could try asking them for an invite.
No. Record Club will always be free, but we will introduce Patreon-style membership tiers in the future which will enable enhanced features and improvements, and help support the future development of Record Club.
Go to the settings page and click on account. From there you can delete your account. But please be certain – we delete everything about you immediately according to European GDPR laws.
No. But we do provide links to external streaming services like Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, Tidal, etc, directly from a release or artist page. You can turn on/off which services you currently subscribe to in preferences in order to quickly show the most relevant link. Or none at all, if that's more your bag.
Every user has their own personal rotation, a collection of releases which is used to signify what you are currently listening to. You can add up to 5 releases at a time, but it can change as much as you like.
In contrast to Last.fm this is not updated based on your listening history on services like Spotify or iTunes. Think of it as more of a handpicked, very curated list of what's currently on repeat for you. Or use it just for yourself as a way to keep track of the releases that matters the most to you at the moment.
If you're looking for a more statistics-driven experience based on play count, may we suggest the open source alternative ListenBrainz, a service from the people behind MusicBrainz. The neat thing is that they use the same great MusicBrainz dataset as Record Club.
Your queue is a list of releases that you want to listen to. It can be either upcoming releases or stuff you've already listened to – releases that you want to revisit sometime in the future. The movie equivalent is a watchlist, or wantlist.
It behaves much in the same way as a regular list, but it can never be deleted and it contains some additional features like ease-of-access and enhanced filtering.
If a release in your rotation is released in the future, you will also be notified of it (if your notifications are turned on).
Record Club sources almost all of its data from MusicBrainz, an open-source project that aims to unify the web's music data via their MusicBrainz Identifier. Some other notable projects that use MusicBrainz to augment and improve data include Last.fm, Spotify, YouTube, Amazon , etc.
If you've spotted an error with the data, we suggest you first of all report it at MusicBrainz. Since it's open source, you're also encouraged to contribute to the improvement of data. Just be sure to read their How to Contribute guide before making changes.
If a release, artist or label is missing from Record Club, it's probably because it hasn't been added to MusicBrainz.
It could also be that we just haven't imported it yet. We import data daily (at 05:00 GMT).
If a release (we only use release_group
entities), label or artist is present on MusicBrainz but missing on Record Club, there might've been a problem with our import process. We've built a simple importer tool to solve this issue, but until it's ready for public use we encourage you to notify us at [email protected] first if a release, label or artist is missing.
Please note that we do not import releases that are unofficial (i.e. street mixtapes or bootlegs, etc.) And artists and labels without any official releases are also not imported.
Another cause could be our search engine, which is currently also in beta. If a release is hard to find via the "mini-search" dropdown on a list or your Top 5, for example, try searching for it on the regular search page. We're continuously making improvements to the search engine, so please be patient while we work out the kinks (hey, great band!).
Not at this time, but it's something we're currently working on.
We're currently building an iOS app that will be released very soon. It's currently in TestFlight testing. Sign up here if you want to help us test it.
We're currently not planning on releasing an Android app in the near future, but that might change.
Until then you can install Record Club as a Progressive Web App (PWA) by following these steps for iOS and these for Android. Using Record Club as a PWA is almost identical to the experience of our native app.
Yes and no.
You can optionally choose to make your profile non-public in the settings page. This will hide your profile and content on public listing pages like the reviews and list overview pages. You will also not be broadcast in the public "Everyone" tab on the activity page, but people who follow you will see it in their "Following" tab.
However, everyone will still be able to find you and your content by going directly to your profile page.
