Prelude to Ecstasy is the debut album by British indie rock band the Last Dinner Party, released on 2 February 2024 by Island Records. It was produced by James Ford, and includes the singles "Nothing Matters", "Sinner", "My Lady of Mercy", "On Your Side" and "Caesar on a TV Screen". The band will tour the UK and Europe from January to July 2024 in support of the album.
I started out feeling disappointed, mainly because of the huge created hype that I was unsure the band lived up to. Secondly, I didn’t feel the high drama of the band name and image translated into the songs,
Now, it’s true that many of the songs on their debut album are more subdued than expected. However, it’s still a very good collection of songs, despite them sometimes sounding more like high school drama class than Royal Shakespeare Company.
Stand out tracks: “Beautiful Boy” & “My Lady Of Mercy”
This is a prime example of a band who has a clear vision from day one. Their debut builds well off the singles and is a fun and challenging record all throughout. The callbacks to glam rock era are very welcome. “Feminine Urge” might be up there in my SOTY lists.
