probably my favorite band at the moment. I keep going back and forth on this but I think I loved their last album slightly more, still this is rock solid stuff.
Their tracks sound like bursting at the seams from all the awesome ideas stuffed into them. Nai Palm’s excellent vocal melodies keep the lid firmly on top and everybody else locked in.
Extremely whimsical record that actually sees Hiatus Kaiyote experimenting with new genre fusion, with incorporations of smooth jazz and hard rock (even some metal?). While I'm not in love with some tracks on the record, I deeply appreciate the novelty of their explorative nature, even if some of the attempts don't land. It's a good reminder of why they are one of the more important bands of this generation.
By far their silliest (a BMO feature???) and also their least cohesive album yet.
That being said, their musicianship and polyrhythmic swagger is on full display, as always. I'll probably end up gravitating towards a few songs on this record instead of ripping it all the way through like I do with their other albums. So stoked to see Cinnamon Temple on this thing after hearing it live for years.
Been a fan from their early days. This album definitely leans on meditations, but their signature sound was front and center. Overall was hoping for more from the non single tracks.
