Charlotte Day Wilson (born 1993) is a Canadian contemporary R&B singer-songwriter. She came to prominence in the mid-2010s with her single "Work" and collaborations with other Toronto-based artists like BadBadNotGood and Daniel Caesar. Wilson released her debut album Alpha in July 2021.
Definitely dragged at parts and felt a bit one dimensional for 80% of the record. She's trying to take you to a liminal space, but instead I fell asleep.
Displaced vocals way up the front of the mix the drums usually buried way down and the bass at times almost at the outer periphery, instead of just mooning it. Such a different mix. It gives the album an energy as well as an intimacy that you don't get in a lot of other records (maybe like Sampha sometimes?)
